As we continue our Easter journey we are also reminded that it is Spring…even in Florida where some have claimed there are only two seasons…HOT and HOTTER! Many of us still see this as a time to clean out our closets, attics and or garages to make room for more…stuff!! In fact, the storage facility business is booming. There are now more than 50,000 storage businesses in the US. That is more than the number of McDonald’s, Subway and Starbucks restaurants in the US combined! That’s a lot of stuff! Not only is Spring a great time to clean out our closets but the Easter season is a great time to clean out our SOULS and get our spiritual lives in order as well. Fortunately, we don’t need a storage facility for the things that usually clutter up our spiritual lives and it won’t cost us anything but time to do. What most of us need is a little spiritual organization and re-prioritization of our lives. Where IS Jesus in OUR lives?? For most of us, Jesus is there but hidden under a mound of STUFF that clutters/burdens our hearts and minds.
The Easter season reminds us that we all need to make room for God in our lives. We need to make Jesus the priority over all else and allow him to carry our burdens, so we don’t get overwhelmed and lost in all of the STUFF that is our daily lives. How do we do that? Through daily prayer and reception of the Eucharist. Are you too busy for prayer? That is an indication that your spiritual closet needs to be cleaned and Jesus needs to be prioritized in your life. May you find time to do some Spring Cleaning of your soul this Easter season and feed yourself not on the fast food dumpster that is the anxiety and burdens of daily life but on the heavenly banquet, THE source of Life itself…The Bread of Life…Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and in Prayer! He Is Risen!!…Alleluia…Alleluia!!
Peace,
Deacon Steve
